A Birthday Celebration For A Very Special Woman

Dear Nan,

Happy Birthday! Roman and I’s prayer for you is to find more peace, wisdom, guidance, and pure joy. May God continue to have His hand on your life and be your refuge. You deserve nothing but the best! We love you!

You are special, loved, unique in every single way and is a big blessing to countless people.

You are an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend.

We are all truly blessed to have you in our lives and we are forever grateful to the Lord for placing you in all of our lives!

From the bottom of our hearts, we want to emphasize our love for you and we hope you enjoyed the special celebration of your birthday.

We love you (Nan) Audrey Page!

On to the celebration post!

Roman and I, along with his parents Mark and Doni took a day trip out to New Jersey to celebrate his Nan’s birthday! It was not too bad of a drive; only took us about 2 & 1/2 hours without traffic!

Fun fact: George Washington crossed this same exact river on December 25, 1776, during the Revolutionary War.

We went to Vidalia’s Italian Restaurant to meet with Nan and Papa Ken. It was a beautiful place and the interior as well as the exterior designs caught my eye.

The outside patio area had a nice ambience!

It was so nice seeing Nan and Papa Ken again since the last time we saw them was early December. We were excited to catch up and enjoy a nice meal with them!

Every single one was DELICIOUS! The chef is amazing. The chef is actually the owner and if you’re ever in Lawrenceville, NJ, we HIGHLY recommend Vidalia’s if you’re craving some Italian food!

After lunch, we headed down to Princeton and had a nice time strolling around. The weather was great so it was perfect to walk around and see the little shops.

img_6643img_6644img_6645

We went to a place called the Greene Street Consignment and oh my gosh, I could stay there for hours! They had the cutest clothes, shoes, bags– everything! Mark recommended the place since he’s been there before and the deals are great. It’s high end products for a steal price. I saw many designer stuff for less than $20 in almost perfect condition!

Doni and I trying on some shoes! Roman found these beautiful, sparkly heels but unfortunately they were a size too big for me! I tried them on anyway. Lol

img_6649

If only they weren’t so big, I totally would’ve gotten them!

img_6646

You can’t really see in this picture, but Mark found an AMAZING deal on this spiffy blazer– only $18 for this designer and it retails for $300+ how awesome is that?! And actually, Roman was the one to spot it also. He has such a good eye. Lol

Once we were done shopping around, we did some more walking around and came across this one bookstore. We had to stop and purchase some books!

img_6652IMG_6654.JPGIMG_6655.JPG

We ended the day by going back to Nan’s house. We gave her birthday gifts and she cooked for us her famous lentil soup and hummus!!! THE BEST LENTIL SOUP AND HUMMUS I HAVE EVER TASTED. It was delicious! I’m craving some now just as I write about it.

Gift from Roman and I!

Roman and I bought her an essential oil humidifier. For Christmas, I gave one to Roman and he absolutely loved it and can’t sleep at night without it so we figured she’d love it just as much! We gave her some essential oils as well and we set it up for her right there and then and she was thrilled with it!!

IMG_6662.JPG

BEST. COOK. EVER! Thank you for all the yummy food!

Nan showed me some of her painting that she’s done in the past and look at this painting!!! She is beyond talented. I wish I got a picture of the other ones she did. She’s a true artist!

Baby Roman with his pretty grandma!

Isn’t that baby picture the cutest?! I just want to pinch Roman’s cheeks!! Lol we went through some of Roman’s baby albums and my heart was melting the entire time. So cute!!

We ended up leaving around 8pm and got back to Pennsylvania around 10:30.

We had such a wonderful time! Loved every single moment celebrating Nan’s birthday with her in Jersey with the family.

Happy Birthday once again, Audrey Page!

Lots of love,

Roman & Jesci

Spontaneous date to Books A Million

It’s currently 2:36 p.m and Roman and I just got back from our lunch break. We went to Chipotle for lunch which was much needed because we have not gone in what feels like forever! Afterwards, we spontaneously decided to go to Books A Million since it was just down the street and we were so glad we went! It was my first time going and the last time Roman went was when I was still back in California and he shipped me some of the books he got which included cook books, daily devotionals and a bunch of inspirational journals!

Peanut Butter & Banana Frappe!

I’m not sure if Books A Million is only in the East Coast because I don’t think I’ve seen any in California. My go-to bookstore back in SoCal is usually Barnes & Noble so I was thrilled to go here!

Book heaven!

I felt like a little kid in a candy store. Roman was happy seeing me happy, because he knew he did a great thing bringing us here today! Lol there were so many selections, I just wanted to stay for hours and browse around.

Christian/ Religion section

The first and main section we looked at was the Christian Living Section. There was an abundance of books that stood out to me and I was just way too excited. Roman felt the same exact way and he actually picked up more books than I did. One book in particular stood out to me and that’s the Daniel Fast! The first time I heard about the fast was from Mack‘s post about a month ago about how her church was doing the fasting based on the Book of Daniel and I was intrigued! I never got the chance to look more into it but when I saw the book– I did not hesitate on getting it!

Excited to read this!!!

What is a Daniel Fast?

The Daniel Fast is a biblically based partial fast referenced in the Bible, particularly in two sections of the Book of Daniel:

  • Daniel 1:12, which states, “Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables [pulses] to eat and water to drink.”
  • Daniel 10: 1-2, which says, “In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.”

Daniel Fast: Food List

With a quick google search (pre-reading the book), here’s a list of food you can eat while on the fast:

BEVERAGES

  • Water only-must be purified/filtered and spring or distilled water is best.
  • Homemade Almond milk, coconut water, coconut kefir and vegetable juice

VEGETABLES (should form the basis of the diet)

  • Fresh or cooked
  • May be frozen and cooked but not canned

FRUITS (consume in moderation 1-3 servings daily)

  • Fresh and cooked
  • May be dried like raisins or apricots (no sulfites or added oils or sweeteners)
  • May be frozen but not canned

WHOLE GRAINS (consume in moderation and ideally sprouted)

  • Brown Rice, Quinoa, Millet, Amaranth, Buckwheat, Barley cooked in water
  • No Wheat, ezekiel bread, others bread, flours, or pasta

BEANS & LEGUMES (consume in moderation)

  • Dried and cooked in water
  • May be consumed from can as long as no salt or other additives are contained and the only ingredients are beans and water

NUTS & SEEDS (sprouted are best)

  • Raw, sprouted or dry roasted (no salt added)

The reason I want to learn more about the Daniel Fast is for spiritual reasons. I want to strengthen my faith even more and to detox and be cleansed.

The following paragraph is found on draxe.com

When you fast and pray—two words that go hand-in-hand in scripture—you pursue God in your life and open yourself up to experiencing a renewed dependence on God, but it isn’t easy.

It is a spiritual discipline that requires denying your physical and mental self because your stomach and your brain will most likely work overtime to remind you when and what they want to eat!

I know this fast will help me to focus more on Christ and I am ecstatic to begin on in this journey and hope to document it all with you!

More books! Roman got Moving Mountains, The Call, and Man of God

I only got one book and Roman got three, so I’m excited for him to start reading and finish them so he can tell me all about it and that maybe I’ll even read it for myself too!

My forever date! Thank you for getting us the books my love!

Overall, this was a nice unexpected trip to Books A Million! I love how Roman and I were able to squeeze a little date in between our lunch break and just spend more time together.

I hope you all have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!

Love,

Jess

Home cooked dinner made with L O V E

Is it crazy to think that being 21 years old, I barely started learning how to cook and experimenting with recipes since about maybe just 6 months ago? I started following cooking pages on Facebook, Instagram and even started watching “How To Cook” videos on YouTube!

Roman, being the supportive boyfriend that he is, got me a bunch of cookbooks that ranged from smoothie recipes to quick 30 minute meals. He actually surprised me with them one day and had it delivered to my house when I used to live in California! I told him once I’m in Pennsylvania, I’ll have mastered some of the recipes and make them for him and all made with love, of course

So, here’s how it turned out!

I made zucchini noodles with ground beef and tomato sauce + bell pepper stuffed ground beef with rice.

It was a successful dinner and Roman loved it. Eager to learn more new recipes and experiment!

P.s you know he’s a keeper when he helps you wash the dishes afterwards 😉

Thanks for reading and I hope you all have a blessed rest of the week! Almost the weekend!!

Cryotherapy? It works.

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy

Being a twenty three year old young man, I would say that I am pretty athletic for my age. I’m constantly doing physical activity at work and I also do crossfit at my gym 5 days a week. I’m in good shape and I am pretty active guy.

Being so active, I’m very thankful that I haven’t gotten hurt. I’ve never had any significant injuries to my body. I’ve never had any broken bones. I’ve never torn any muscles or tissue. I’ve never had any surgeries or anything like that.

While I was with Jesci in California, I was completing the easy task of washing Kobe (Jesci’s Dog). Well, I thought it was easy.

Until.

That is.

I pulled my back.

IMG_2776

You’re worth getting injured for Kobe

Injuries can happen at anytime and unfortunately, it happened to me when I least expected it to happen. I pulled a muscle in my lower back and I had a slight noticeable limp in my walk. Thinking it would pass, I decided to just sleep it off, but I didn’t realize what was yet to come.

The next morning my back was okay. It was still sore, but nothing to prevent me from going about my day. As the day progressed, I decided that it might be a good idea to get a massage. Now, I frequently get a massage at home to keep my mind and body relaxed. To be honest, I really can’t go a week without getting a massage. It relaxes and soothes my mind and entire body. I feel replenished and completely rejuvenated upon every massage. Thinking that I would feel rejuvenated, I decided that it was a good idea to go get a massage.

Well…

I.

Was.

Wrong.

I ended up going to a place called “Foot Massage”

I guess I should’ve been warned by the name. I had a back injury, not foot injury.

Oh well.
Stupid me.
I soon learned…

Upon my arrival, I was greeted and taken to a massage table. I explained that I wanted a back massage and that my back was injured.
The massage started out decent and I pointed to the area that my back was bothering me. It felt like a really bad knot. It was bearable, but it was irritating me.

Everything felt good so far.

Until…

The masseuse starting drilling her elbow right into my back. Spot on where my pain was.

Deep Tissue Massage.

I started seeing stars.

Literally.

I saw stars.

She couldn’t see my facial expressions, but let me tell you.

IT HURT.

I was explaining “Miss, can you go a little softer?”
She didn’t understand me and actually began to drill harder.

THE PAIN.

It was BAD. Really. Really. Really. BAD.

Praying for the massage to be over, the masseuse then rolled my back continuously with hot bamboo sticks. The pain subsided from the pressure of her elbow drilling and the bamboo sticks actually felt really good on me.

I did not feel any pain anymore and I thought that everything was good.

But.

This.

Wasn’t

Over.

Yet.

As soon as I went to get off the table and put my shoes on, I bent down to tie my shoes…

I.

SAW.

STARS.

AGAIN.

MY BACK HURT SO BAD!

It was so inflamed!

I could barely walk. I couldn’t even sit.

It was such a struggle to get out of this place. It was complete agony.

The 5 minute ride home was horrible. It felt like we were driving for hours and hours. It was so bad; I just wanted it to end! I never had pain like this in my life.

I couldn’t sleep.
I couldn’t even lay down on a bed.
I was stuck.
I was stuck laying down.
Laying down face on the floor.
In agony.

Now I’m all natural guy. I don’t take and medication. I don’t take pain killers. I don’t even go to the doctor. I prefer the all natural life.

The pain was so bad that I just wanted to go to the ER

Thankfully, I did not..

Being is so much pain, Jesci’s aunt recommended that I try cryotherapy. Knowing nothing about it, but willing to give anything a try to stop the pain; I gave in!

I decided to give cryotherapy a chance and I am glad that I did!

What is Cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy is the local or general use of low temperatures in medical therapy. Cryotherapy is used to treat a variety of benign and malignant tissue damage, medically called lesions. The term “cryotherapy” comes from the Greek cryo (κρύο) meaning cold, and therapy (θεραπεία) meaning cure.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryotherapy

I’ve seen different athletes use this treatment before, but I never knew what it was called. Athlete’s such as Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, and Floyd Mayweather frequently use this treatment for recovery after training and various sporting events.

Lebron Recovery Cryotherapy

Upon arriving at the cryotherapy facility, I was immediately taken to get changed for the treatment. I had to take everything off; it was such a struggle with my back pain! My back was killing me and I had to put new long protective socks on. I had to put special shoes on.  I had to even put heavy winter gloves on.

With the help of Jesci, I put on my robe, only to shortly take it off a few minutes later!

It was time to begin my treatment!

Let me just say that

CRYOTHERAPY IS COLD

REALLY. REALLY. COLD.

But, it’s totally worth every second!

It is a dry cold steam and it feels quite good. I just had to endure the harsh cold for 3 minutes. Before I knew it, the treatment was over and I felt great!

My body was tingly.
Tingly all over.
I felt my blood flowing.
I felt LOOSE.
My inflammation had subsided drastically.
I started to feel like myself again.

Because I loved it so much, the gentleman gave me two extra sessions at no charge!
I had a total of three 3 minute sessions of cryotherapy and I felt wonderful.

Not only did my body feel amazing, but my mind was totally refreshed. I felt one hundred percent re-energized, replenished, and refreshed.

I felt better than ever and my back pain was completely gone!

I now have implicated cryotherapy into a routine and I have gone a total of 5 times so far. If you are an athlete, I would highly recommend trying out cryotherapy. You will recover faster and prevent further injury. Even if you are not an athlete, I would recommend trying it out. It does wonders for your body and mind.

Cryotherapy. It works.

Surprised with a Fitbit Blaze

I recently started on my fitness journey August 1, 2016. I’ve been working out twice a day, six days a week and I never felt better! With physical training and clean eating, I have been seeing results and it’s only been three weeks. Roman could not of had been any more supportive. He’s always there to give me encouraging words and inspires me to be better each day!

One day, I came across an Instagram account that was all fitness related. This person had posted a picture that intrigued me. The photo had stats of how many steps, stairs and miles she had done throughout the day. I commented and asked what app she was using and she responded stating that it was Fitbit. I did my research on it and fell in love. I was amazed with all the functions and how it keeps track of everything. I told Roman I was interested and planned on getting one for myself to help track my workouts.

Little did I know, Roman was one step ahead and had already ordered me a Fitbit Blaze! He sent me a text on Thursday morning telling me to go outside and at first I thought he was joking but when I went outside, I saw a package with my name on it! I was so excited because I had no idea what was inside. When I opened it, my heart dropped and I had butterflies in my stomach. I fell IN LOVE! I was ecstatic and set it up right away!

Words could not express how much it meant to me. It’s the little things that Roman does to remind me of his love and support in anything and everything that I choose to do.

It’s been about six days since I’ve had the Fitbit and I never ever take it off. Only when I get in the shower because it’s not recommended, but other than that, it’s with me everywhere I go.

The great thing about this Fitbit is it pushes you to reach your daily goal.

The daily goals include:

  • steps
  • stairs
  • miles
  • calories
  • food intake
  • water intake

It makes it easy and fun especially with the Fitbit community where you can join challenges with people from all over the world and see who can do the most steps, longest distance, etc.

If you’ve been thinking about getting a Fitbit, I truly recommend the Fitbit Blaze. It’s touch screen and easy to navigate and it has been my must have accessory whenever I work out or even when I’m just at home! It reminds me to keep active every hour by having a goal of at least 250 steps.

I cannot thank Roman enough for this sweet and thoughtful present. I love it so much!
