Fall is in the air!

Hi everyone, hope all is well!

I cannot believe it’s already November 1st! Thanksgiving is in 3 weeks and Christmas is just right around the corner. Crazy how quickly time flies by. One of the many things I love about Pennsylvania is the foliage. It’s mesmerizing seeing the colorful, vibrant leaves on the trees sway back and forth from the light breeze. It’s just a beautiful time of the year! This year, this season has been warmer than usual and we aren’t complaining at all. Roman and I are definitely soaking in all the cozy, fall fun while we can!

Bloomsburg Fair 2017

First and foremost, can I just acknowledge the fact that in just a few days, it will be exactly one year since I’ve moved across the country to be with Roman? How surreal! When Roman and I started this blog, I was still living in California while he was here in Pennsylvania and we were sharing with all of you our travels together as well as how we were managing long distance! Time flies!

But to get back to the main topic of this post: Bloomsburg Fair! Roman and I went this past weekend along with his parents Mark and Doni. I had 3 days off and we thought, what better way to spend it than go to the fair?! We went on Saturday late afternoon and we could not get over how perfect the weather was. We picked the best day to go! I heard it usually rains this time of year so we were thrilled with our high 90’s weather!

Parking was full! Lots of people!

It was Roman and I’s first time attending the fair together, which made it special but even extra special to have spent the day with his parents as well! When we got to the parking lot, I was excited to see a helicopter! I’ve never been to a fair that offered helicopter rides so that was interesting.

Watching them prepare for takeoff!

And they’re up!

We were pretty hungry by the time we got inside considering we saved our appetite and we were not disappointed! There were HUNDREDS of food vendors right from the entrance and it was pretty overwhelming but in a good way of course! The very first thing we got was edible cookie dough and I couldn’t contain my excitement because earlier that day I was telling Roman how I was craving it and when he pointed it out to me, we made sure to get some right away!

We spot the edible cookie dough truck!

Roman trying the cake batter flavor and loved it

Happiness in a little cup

After getting our cookie dough craving out of the way, we continued on our food adventure! Lol

Can’t go to a fair without some fries!

Deep fried everything!

And you definitely can’t go without having some deep fried Oreos!!! We tried the deep fried peanut butter too but the Oreos were better

Mark & Roman having the best apple cider! All natural!

BBQ is a MUST!

Turkey BBQ! So tasty.

Teriyaki noodles; full of flavor!

By the end of the night, we were stuffed lol but all the walking around we did made up for it. We had such a great time! Truly blessed to have experienced it this year and with the loved ones ❤️

Cute little bunny!!!

Thanks for reading! I hope you all have a great rest of the week!

Life Update!

Hi everyone! Roman and I have gone MIA these past few months and as much as we wanted to blog, so much has happened that we hardly had any time to sit and write! But we’re back and have plenty to share with you all! ❤️

Updated selfie with my love! I dyed my hair to brown! Lol

I came back from the Philippines to Pennsylvania first week of April. I had an amazing time there with family (I actually still have a few posts to make from the trip which will be up soon!) but it was nice coming back home to my love!

So during my last week of vacation in the Philippines, I received an email from the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine stating that I was officially licensed and can practice as a Respiratory Care Practitioner! I was licensed in California but when I moved to the East Coast, the process of getting my license took MONTHS and at times I was getting discouraged but God is so good because it came and after the big trip to the Philippines! When I got back to PA, I sent out ONE application to this one hospital that’s literally only 15 minutes from the house and the next day, I got an interview and the following day after, I got offered the job!

One of the biggest blessings of 2017, thus far! I prayed for an acute care hospital job as a Registered Respiratory Therapist since I graduated and I am more than thrilled to have received an offer at a Level 3 NICU center as a full time employee and with a highly generous sign on bonus! I’m still in shock honestly and I’m already 3 weeks going on 4 into the job. Lol I love what I do– from working with babies to kids to adults and everyday is something different! From being in the ER, NICU, ICU, or on a patient transport from one hospital to another and being part of the critical care team… it’s surreal to think back to how much I’ve learned and gained as an experience these last few weeks.

First day on the job!

I’m so thankful for the support I’ve been receiving on the daily basis from Roman, his parents, my family, Nan and everyone else!!! I would not be able to go through these 8-12 hour shifts without them and their love and continuous support.

My schedule has been all over the place with orientation and now that I’m off orientation, my shifts are from 2-10pm and 2pm-2am! Roman and I are adjusting to this schedule because we have been used to being together everyday, but it’s a constant reminder for us to give it all to God and to let Him take care of our relationship and we know that He will never fail us!

So asides my work, these other events have taken place!

Roman always loved nature but this Spring, he’s been into planting and gardening and it’s the cutest thing ever!! He’s made the front + backyard look so colorful with all the trees and flowers he’s planted!

My little gardener

And he has been such a handy man lately… he’s been setting up new furniture for the backyard and look how pretty this solar umbrella is!

He found his new hobby! Lol and me on the other hand… I started golf lessons with my friend Olivia and Roman’s mom, Doni! And it’s at one of the most beautiful golf clubs in North East PA!

Glenmaura Golf Club

Our classes are every Thursday night and each week they provide us unlimited drinks and a different theme! lol so far we’ve had Sangria and Margarita night! How awesome is that? Although I don’t drink, I’m sure everyone else is loved it! ☺️

And the last update for today:

Mark, Roman’s father, bought us these awesome new bikes!!!!! We were beyond excited and that was so thoughtful of him.

Mark,

Thank you so much! You are the real MVP!!!

We love our new bikes!

Thanks for reading and I hope you all have a wonderful and blessed weekend! Roman and I will be back to posting regularly and keeping updated with everyone’s post again! ❤️

Love,

Jess

Spontaneous date to Books A Million

It’s currently 2:36 p.m and Roman and I just got back from our lunch break. We went to Chipotle for lunch which was much needed because we have not gone in what feels like forever! Afterwards, we spontaneously decided to go to Books A Million since it was just down the street and we were so glad we went! It was my first time going and the last time Roman went was when I was still back in California and he shipped me some of the books he got which included cook books, daily devotionals and a bunch of inspirational journals!

Peanut Butter & Banana Frappe!

I’m not sure if Books A Million is only in the East Coast because I don’t think I’ve seen any in California. My go-to bookstore back in SoCal is usually Barnes & Noble so I was thrilled to go here!

Book heaven!

I felt like a little kid in a candy store. Roman was happy seeing me happy, because he knew he did a great thing bringing us here today! Lol there were so many selections, I just wanted to stay for hours and browse around.

Christian/ Religion section

The first and main section we looked at was the Christian Living Section. There was an abundance of books that stood out to me and I was just way too excited. Roman felt the same exact way and he actually picked up more books than I did. One book in particular stood out to me and that’s the Daniel Fast! The first time I heard about the fast was from Mack‘s post about a month ago about how her church was doing the fasting based on the Book of Daniel and I was intrigued! I never got the chance to look more into it but when I saw the book– I did not hesitate on getting it!

16804486_10202819571646876_7102039458198858688_o

Excited to read this!!!

What is a Daniel Fast?

The Daniel Fast is a biblically based partial fast referenced in the Bible, particularly in two sections of the Book of Daniel:

  • Daniel 1:12, which states, “Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables [pulses] to eat and water to drink.”
  • Daniel 10: 1-2, which says, “In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.”

Daniel Fast: Food List

With a quick google search (pre-reading the book), here’s a list of food you can eat while on the fast:

BEVERAGES

  • Water only-must be purified/filtered and spring or distilled water is best.
  • Homemade Almond milk, coconut water, coconut kefir and vegetable juice

VEGETABLES (should form the basis of the diet)

  • Fresh or cooked
  • May be frozen and cooked but not canned

FRUITS (consume in moderation 1-3 servings daily)

  • Fresh and cooked
  • May be dried like raisins or apricots (no sulfites or added oils or sweeteners)
  • May be frozen but not canned

WHOLE GRAINS (consume in moderation and ideally sprouted)

  • Brown Rice, Quinoa, Millet, Amaranth, Buckwheat, Barley cooked in water
  • No Wheat, ezekiel bread, others bread, flours, or pasta

BEANS & LEGUMES (consume in moderation)

  • Dried and cooked in water
  • May be consumed from can as long as no salt or other additives are contained and the only ingredients are beans and water

NUTS & SEEDS (sprouted are best)

  • Raw, sprouted or dry roasted (no salt added)

The reason I want to learn more about the Daniel Fast is for spiritual reasons. I want to strengthen my faith even more and to detox and be cleansed.

The following paragraph is found on draxe.com

When you fast and pray—two words that go hand-in-hand in scripture—you pursue God in your life and open yourself up to experiencing a renewed dependence on God, but it isn’t easy.

It is a spiritual discipline that requires denying your physical and mental self because your stomach and your brain will most likely work overtime to remind you when and what they want to eat!

I know this fast will help me to focus more on Christ and I am ecstatic to begin on in this journey and hope to document it all with you!

More books! Roman got Moving Mountains, The Call, and Man of God

I only got one book and Roman got three, so I’m excited for him to start reading and finish them so he can tell me all about it and that maybe I’ll even read it for myself too!

My forever date! Thank you for getting us the books my love!

Overall, this was a nice unexpected trip to Books A Million! I love how Roman and I were able to squeeze a little date in between our lunch break and just spend more time together.

I hope you all have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!

Love,

Jess

Goodbye California, Hello Pennsylvania!

For those who have been following our blog since the beginning, then you are aware that Roman and I have been doing long distance relationship since January of this year. I grew up most of my entire life in California and Roman is born and raised in PA. We were literally on opposite ends of the country. We had one of the biggest life changing events 12 days ago… I relocated here to PA and now Roman and I get to be together every single day!

14612633_10202219660409470_7586341603079293597_o

Since the day I got here, everyone has been asking me how I like it here in PA and I can genuinely say I absolutely love it. The scenery is beautiful, kind people everywhere, and the weather is most certainly different from CA but I love it!

Meeting Roman’s parents and entire family for the first time was quite nerve wrecking at first (in a good way) but oh my goodness, they are the absolute sweetest people ever. His parents are amazing and are full of love and kindness. It makes sense because Roman is exactly the same and now I know where he gets his traits from! Lol Roman and his family have welcomed me in with open arms and I could not be any more grateful for all that they have done and continue to do every single day!

On my first night, they took me out to a nice fancy dinner at a restaurant called Isabella’s. The food were scrumptious and we all had a lovely time! It was great just being with him and his parents and I felt so comfortable being around them– as if it wasn’t my first time meeting them and I’ve known them longer! They truly made me feel like I’m part of the family.

14612395_10202226058089408_2279439843350745811_o

This picture was taken on Saturday. We went out to dinner at a place called Barpazzo since it was highly recommended by many people. We went out with his best friend Donald who drove down from Rochester NY, Greg, his parents, and two aunts! It was so lovely meeting everyone and getting to know them. Like I said, every single person I have met has been so welcoming and loving!

On Sunday, Roman’s mom, Doni, cooked us a feast! The food were amazing!! She made lamb, chicken, cauliflower rice, tomato with mozzarella, and so much more. Plus all the dessert, oh my goodness we were all food coma by the end of the day.

A lot has definitely happened since my arrival and I could write about so much more but they will all be on separate posts!

I just want to thank again Roman and his sweet, loving family for welcoming me and pouring out nothing but love. I can’t wait to post many more of our adventures and the places we’ve been to since I got here!

Praise God for all the blessings and for making all of this possible!

God’s Promises

These last couple of weeks, I was faced with trials and tribulations. However, I am beyond grateful for my partner in Christ, Roman Marcus, for helping me get through it by being my constant reminder of God’s love and of His promises.

Here’s a reminder that ALL of God’s promises are YES and AMEN (2 Cor.1:20). This means that we don’t have to work for it.

We don’t need to beg God or think that maybe some day His promises will happen for us if we’re good enough.

Our confidence in God will never fail.

So what are some of His promises for us?

He promises… to be with us, wherever we go. – Joshua 1:9

He promises… that His peace, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians  4:7

He promises… to care for us. – 1 Peter 5:7

He promises… that the Holy Spirit will give us the right words when we need them. – Mark 13:11

He promises… that we are justified by Him, freely, by His grace. – Romans 3:24

He promises… that we have peace with God – Romans 5:1

He promises… that there is no condemnation on us because we are in Christ Jesus. – Romans 8:1

He promises… that all things work together for my good. – Romans 8:28

He promises… that God has created good works for me to walk in, today. – Ephesians 2:10

He promises… that God will supply all my needs. – Philippians 4:19

He promises… that God’s grace will be sufficient for me – 2 Corinthians 12:9

He promises… that I can approach God with freedom and confidence. – Eph. 3:12

These promises are for YOU. These promises are for ME. Choosing to have confidence in them.

Have a blessed week, everyone!

Love,

Jesci Mari
